STEWARDS MILL
HARMONY CHURCH
In
1876, George Washington Steward donated land and building materials to build a church. On
the left of the picture, the entrance to the cemetery can faintly be seen.
Note there are two entrance doors. In the early days, men and women
entered by separate doors and sat on opposite sides of the Church. Samuel
Manahan, nephew of Washington, was a carpenter and helped build the
Church. He also built the pews that are still being used in the
Church.

Inside Harmony Church.
An antique coal stove sits between the center column and the pews to warm the
building. The long black line in the center of the photo is the chimney
stack. Great-grandson (3 times removed) Sam Houston Graves and wife Laurie
Jeanne Karnes Graves are checking out the inside of the Church.

In 1965, Texas State
recognized the Church as a historic landmark and this marker was attached to the
side of the Church. The marker reads:
